Theodore
Vlachos |
Born and raised
in Athens, he received
the Dipl.-Ing degree from the U.
of Patras, Greece in
1985 and the MSc degree from the U.
of Maryland, USA in 1986
both in Electrical Engineering. For his work on image and
video
coding he was awarded the PhD degree from Imperial
College in
1993. From 1985 to 1987 he held research positions
at the U.
of Maryland and the
Institute for Systems Research working
on the analysis and
design of digital communication systems and networks. Between 1988 and
1992 he was a European Commission
Fellow at Imperial College and was associated with Philips Research
Laboratories, UK, working
on image analysis,
image processing and video coding for very low bit-rate and
broadcasting applications. From
1993 to 1997 he was a Research Engineer with the Multimedia Group at
the BBC R&D
Department where
he led
various projects on bit-rate
reduction for digital HDTV
and archive
restoration. During
1996-1997 he was an accredited member of the UK delegation in ISO-MPEG. He
joined the Centre for
Vision, Speech and Signal
Processing
at the University of Surrey, Guildford in 1997, working initially as a
Lecturer, then as a Senior Lecturer and finally as a Reader in
Multimedia Signal Processing. In 2008 he joined the Ionian University,
Corfu
as an Associate Professor in Digital Image Processing. He is a
Chartered Engineer, a member of the Technical
Chamber of Greece and the IEE
(now IET) where he
served as an Officer in Professional Group E4
“Image Processing and Vision”,
Electronics and Communications
Division, 1998-2000. |
