Research

My research bridges digital technologies and tourism, with an emphasis on data-driven destination management, user-generated content, and immersive cultural experiences.

Tourism Intelligence & Big Data
Destination analytics • Forecasting
Develop quantitative frameworks that connect large-scale digital traces (online reviews, media narratives, mobility data) with tourism demand and destination performance. This includes tourism nowcasting and the use of AI-assisted models to support evidence-based decision-making for regions such as the Ionian Islands and Crete.
Time-series forecasting Panel econometrics UGC analytics
Destination Image & UGC
Text & image analysis
Investigate how destinations are represented across platforms and media: from online reviews and forums to social video content. This includes work on the evolution of Corfu’s image across crises and the risks that local crises pose for destination image more broadly.
Destination image Overtourism Sentiment & topic modelling
Immersive Media & Cultural Heritage
XR applications
A second research stream focuses on extended reality (XR) technologies for cultural engagement and tourism experience design. Recent work includes augmented audio-only games, AR applications in museums and public spaces, and location-aware narratives in the historic centre of Corfu.
AR/VR Audio games Experience design
Optimization & High-Performance ML
Algorithms & practice
My technical background includes the design of parallel optimization algorithms and high-performance machine learning on heterogeneous architectures, with applications ranging from image and audio processing to competition-level data science.
Global optimization GPU computing Hybrid algorithms
