• PROPOSAL OF THE WORKSHOP

The goal of the workshop is to build up a collective composition with a group of participants using recorded soundscape from the island.

• FIRST: RECORDING

In this phase participants are asked to record the sounds surrounding them. These recordings represent places or they contain words of their language. Yet, in the activity the sounds are heard not only for what they represent but also for their sonic and musical qualities. And because a recorded sound can be stored and reproduced, it can become a material for a sound composition.

• SECOND: EDITING

Participants will then work on editing them. In order to keep the activity of editing as accessible as possible to the widest array of people we take advantage of free software Audacity that is particularly adapted for sound processing. People without any technological background can learn quickly how to edit and mix recorded sounds. All the edited sounds are assembled to constitute a bank of sounds. This is a material that will be used to compose

• THIRD TRANSFORMING,

In order to increase the musical possibilities of soundscape and vocal sounds, they could be transformed with the SUPER COLLIDER software. In this process, sounds will gradually acquire a new musical meaning in addition to their original anecdotal meaning.

• FINAL STAGE: COMPOSING

The piece grows by being alternatively transformed and expanded by each participant. Depending of the participants the result could be an installation, a sound improvisation in real time, a composition on line etc.
